A whopping 75% of Merrimack’s students live on campus in residence halls. This leaves just a quarter of undergraduates who live off of campus grounds. Many of these commuter students feel that they are at a disadvantage to the social aspects of college. Half of their time is spent off campus, which simply leaves less time to socialize with both residence and other commuters.

Andria Auger, a current Honors Program member and college freshman of Merrimack, decided to take action to this conflict with a group of other students. She currently holds the secretary position of the Commuter Student Association (CSA), a club which allows commuters to become socially involved on campus.

CSA proposes to help the commuter students find a home on Merrimack grounds. “I think a lot of commuters are struggling with this,” Andria stated, “so the CSA is meant to be ‘by commuters, for commuters,’ offering an organization where they can feel welcome and have the opportunity to make friends!”

“We want commuters to be able to “make it their Merrimack,” Andria continued, “regardless of whether or not they live on campus.” The Honors Program shares the same mission regarding their specific members, and the Honors Lounge is heavily used by Honors commuters.
