Going Live at Merrimack
Get ready to tune in to Merrimack’s first ever internet radio station!
After months of preparation, Professor Jake Turner and Lisa Vassallo are proud to announce that the new station will be in function by this upcoming fall semester. Students will have a chance to control music playlists, lead news casts, and host other features of entertainment on the radio.
Honors Student Vassallo is extremely excited about all the opportunities that will come from the new station. She feels that it will provide students with a chance to branch out, be unique, and host their own shows in their own way. Vassallo’s own experience in the radio industry influenced her decision to pursue creating a radio station on campus. She has interned and worked at Greater Media Boston/ Radio 92.9 , a career opportunity that other students may now follow.
Merrimack will provide two different opportunities to be involved. First, the Radio Productions class will be available. Here, students will learn the skills and techniques real radio hosts use every day. Second, a Radio Club will be an option to those not in the class. However, the hope is students will engage in both in order to receive the full radio experience.
