Home is Where the Heart is: Honors Program Moves to North Residential Village

At the beginning of the fall semester of 2013, Honors students ranging from bright-eyed freshmen all the way up to seasoned seniors moved into House Three of what is now known as South Residential Village. There had been Honors Living and Learning Communities floors before, but this was the first building to be dedicated solely to the Honors students.
On February 9th, Dr. Wians announced the Honors Program move to North Campus. In an email that opened with “It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce the new home and heart of the Merrimack College Honors Program”, Wians delivered the news of a new space for residents and commuters to come together.
Located next to the Sakowich Campus Center and Austin Hall, the new North Residential Village area includes a new Honors office, a lounge complete with a fully functional kitchen and Apple TVs, and housing for sophomore, junior, and senior Honors students. The new Honors Commons gives the program 3300 square feet of space and has created a more central location for all Honors students.
With 170 beds and suite style living with the same set up as House Three in South Residential Village, students will have a comfortable space to work and relax. Throughout the spring semester the honors students suggested their preferences for the new area. The ideas ranged from furniture styles all the way to kitchen appliances. Even the colors of the rooms are driven by student suggestions.
With this centralized space influenced by the ideas of Honors students, the Honors Program community is sure to enjoy their new space and thrive in the company of friends.
