Study Abroad

When you go abroad, the possibilities are endless. While the goal is to learn about other cultures, it is a great method to self-discovery!

Brittany Leonard’16 studied in Bilboa, Spain for five months last spring. She shared her personal experience by saying, “You are basically thrown into a foreign country with unfamiliar people, language, food, transportation, and there’s nothing more terrifying. However, it’s incredibly exhilarating at the same time. Every day poses a new challenge, a new discovery, and a new exploration of who you are as a person, and at the end of the day, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing how far you have come in such a short amount of time.”

Amshula Divadkar’17 is another student who studied abroad,. She wanted something different for herself and did not want the typical European study abroad experience. This is what influenced her decision to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the spring semester her sophomore year. Her take on the experience was that “you learn so much about yourself, about the world, and you will always be one step ahead of the other candidate who did not venture out of his/her comfort zone. A real world experience is what employers look for.”

Honors senior Kate Mermelstein not only studied abroad, she also had an internship in London. She worked as a Research Analyst for The Omerta Group. Davida Winn’17 participated this summer in the San Gimignano Italy, program for three weeks with Merrimack Faculty and staff while taking 2-courses. She says “visiting Italy was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”

Traveling around the world is a fantastic opportunity that everyone should take advantage of. Alison Hogan’16 (Bilboa, Spain) sums it up perfectly: “It gives you a chance to explore yourself and understand what you really want in life.”

Try it for yourself!
